In a school children belonging to the same class are in
almost the same age group by a variance of about 8-10 months. But it is found
that not all these children have the same learning capacity.
Some are fast learners while the others are slow. A few
children may be good at math while others at languages. Majority of the
students may be average with a few below the average and some above this
average. The teachers need to find out the capacity of each student.
Then once this is done they can be classified into different groups. The
smart or the above average students can be made the group leaders and assigned
the task of teaching some students who are below average.
This can be done via playing some group games or some
discussions or question and answer sessions under the guidance of the teacher.
This way the concepts can be easily learned by the below average students too.
The smart students grasp the concepts fast and they can then
help the tutor to teach the other students too. this will also give them
develop their leadership qualities. In a school the students need to learn many
other things other than just the academics.
It is such situations that give them chances to hone other
kinds of skills which will be helpful in their life in the future.
A teacher may not be able to give individual attention to a
group of 40-50 students always. Assigning this kind of tasks to some students
can also help the teacher and also the students. This makes the teaching and
the learning process easy.
Group learning teaches the concepts to all in a general way
but some students need individual attention. Such kind of classification into
smaller groups headed by one of the smart student may give scope for such
students to get individual attention in the areas they are weak.
The learning capacity of all the students can increase and
each student can learn a lot of concepts during their school days which will be
helpful in their future life.
